COMPREHENSIVE RECREATIONAL TRAILS PLAN UPDATE

The Fairbanks North Star Borough is developing a new Recreational Trails Plan that will be the primary decision-making tool guiding FNSB and its partners to prioritize the allocation of available resources to local trails.

FUTURE FNSB TRAILS

We Are Refining Which Trail Recommendations Should be in the Plan

Thank you for your feedback, it is
helping us refine the big-picture, long-term development plan for Borough trails. Updated maps will be presented with the Draft Trails Plan.

For a successful update to the Recreational Trails Plan, we need your knowledge and input! The Trails Advisory Commission (TAC) is the Plan's steering committee and we encourage you to participate at upcoming Commission meetings, connect with the project team, and engage through the Interactive Comment Mapping portal.

PRIORITY TRAIL IDENTIFICATION

Thank you for helping us understand more about trails you use in the Borough and what is important to the community, and for helping us make decisions. The Borough has limited resources and we needed to know what trails you prioritize to allocate those resources to.

TAC Work Sessions in October and November reviewed many miles of trail recommendations on maps and started the discussion to help us identify priorities and refine the recommendations. Public comments were being collected November through mid January via the online tool Miro, through email and by submitting comments here on the website.  Click the "Review Draft Maps" below to access the draft maps we collected your feedback on.

  • The Trails Plan Team is working hard to analyze your feedback and incorporate it into updated Draft Trail Recommendation Maps. The updated maps will be available for another round of public review, with the public review draft of the Comprehensive Recreational Trails Plan, in the Spring. STAY TUNED!

DATA COLLECTION & TRAIL INVENTORY

Thank you for helping us identify existing trails, their uses and conditions, issues and opportunities with the Borough Trails system. You can review comments and contributions made on the Interactive Comment Map via the Dashboard Summary.

VISION, GOALS & GUIDING PRINCIPLES

The Trails Advisory Commission (TAC) worked collaboratively over multiple meetings with FNSB Staff, the project team, and the public, to develop the vision, goals and guiding principles to guide investments in the recreational trails system and trail program for the 20-year horizon. Read the vision statement written below and view the Vision, Goals & Guiding Principles Report.

The Fairbanks North Star Borough trail system is cherished and essential to our community identity, health and economy; connects our communities to each other and their surrounding wild landscapes through an expansive network; and provides all ages and abilities an unparalleled variety of high-quality experiences for every season.
